Accomplishment: Professor In Seop Chang’s discovery of microorganism electric conductivity published in the PNAS

Professor In Seop Chang from the Department of Environment Science and Engineering at The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) in joint research with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the University of Southern California (USC), and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) discovered that Shewanella oneidensis strain MR-I and other microorganisms produce electrically conductive bacterial nanowires. The result of this research was published in the Vol.103 of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) on July 25 2006.

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a research-oriented graduate school established by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the Republic of Korea in 1993.

The University Identity was changed from K-JIST to GIST in 2004.
