2 Students from GIST were selected as The Korean President"s Scholarship Students by the result of GIST to cultivate brains living in local area.

GIST College has created a good result from the first year of its commencement by producing national scholarship students and lots of talented human resources living in local area.




GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, represented by Jungho SONU, President of GIST) announced that two students in GIST, Mr. Kim, Yeonju and Mr. Pak Taegyu, were selected as "The Korean President"s National Scholarship Students. The award is hosted by Korea Student Aid Foundation (KOSAF). The important thing is that those two students are talented human resources grown in Gwangju City.




The Korean President"s scholarship was established under intention to promote engineering studies among juveniles. Entire tuition fees for 4 years, including KRW 2 million of bounty on study for each semester, will be given to those selected scholarship students. In 2010, total 126 students were selected as scholarship students.




Mr. Kim Yeonju, selected as a scholarship student, had been graduated from Gwangju Science High School as the early graduation student of excellent students and entered into GIST through after passing through narrow gate for entrance of GIST. He won a silver prize in National Science Research Presentation Contests. And Mr. Pak has caught public attention as promising human resources in science field by wining Encouragement award in Korean Earth Science Olympiad. Those two students decided to join in GIST after they realized that it has benchmarked a prominent Caltech university and have many differentiated and advanced education system.




 GIST is a place being gathered by preliminary top class science and has worked hard to create excellent human resources living in local area, even while it has prepared faculty courses. By its effort, total 25% of freshman in GIST is from Gwanju/Jeonnam area.




Mr. Lee Kwan Heng, a dean in GIST University, said that "It is true that local communities had worries for brain drain and GIST would do its best to cultivate those students as human resources who can draw development of local areas". "GIST Faculty course will invite brains living in local area".
