With the growing interest in cutting-edge x-ray laser technology, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) Advanced Photonics Research Institute’s (APRI) X-ray laser technology is in the center of attention.

 

The x-ray laser possesses the characteristics of the existing laser, but at the same time, it can be used for micro materials and high-speed imaging for it uses an ultra short wavelength. This also enables the imaging of material movement in an atom and biometric imaging.

 

GIST APRI is equipped with the Ultrashort Quantum Beam Facility, which is a high power laser facility needed to create x-ray laser, and a team of professionals. It is leading the development of x-ray laser technology in Korea as was demonstrated by its successful x-ray laser emission for the first time in Korea in 2006.

 

Chief professor Jong-Min Lee of APRI, who is directing the Ultrashort Quantum Beam Facility Project, is leading the enhancement of domestic x-ray laser research standards by hosting the 12^th International Conference on X-Ray Lasers, attended by more than 100 researchers home and abroad, including U.S. University of Colorado Professor Rocca, a global expert in x-ray laser, .
