651 candidates applied for 80 admissions, marking a competition rate of 8.1:1  



 









 



Undergraduate courses in GIST is gaining more attention as it marks a competition rate of 8.1:1 in nonscheduled admissions 2011, which is the second recruitment for undergraduates in GIST. A total of 651 candidates applied for this year’s admission for 80 admissions of among 100 freshmen.



 



This is a significant increase compared to last year’s competition rate of 6.5:1 where 521 candidates applied. Candidates from metropolitan area were the largest group with 276 candidates marking 42% of the total, followed by 189(29%) candidates from Honam and Jeju region, 85(13%) candidates from Yeongnam region, and 73(11%) candidates from Choongcheong region. 416 candidates were graduates from science high schools, marking 64% of the total, and others from regular high schools were 221, marking 34% of the total.



 



2010 was the first year for GIST to accept candidates in the undergraduate courses. Benchmarked from California Institute of Technology, USA, the undergraduate courses of GIST focuses on basic science and small group education, and also stresses humanities education as well in order to develop and nurture the students’ creativity and communication skills.
