GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, president Jung Ho Sonu) and the Korean Academy of Science and Technology(president: Kil Saeng Chung) invited professor Alan J. Heeger(professor at the physics and materials engineering departments at UC Santa Barbara), the 2000 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and held the 63rd Hanlim Scholar Lecture.

At this scholar lecture which was held at the small lecture hall of Oryong Hall in GIST, professor Heeger lectured on plastic solar cells under the theme "Electron transmission mechanism of high-molecular solar cells".
