On Monday, January 3, 2011, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology(GIST, president Jung Ho Sonu) held the "2011 New Year"s Greeting Ceremony" at the grand conference hall in Haengjeong-dong.

In this event, approximately 100 faculty members including GIST president Jung Ho Sonu; auditor Cheol Woong Jeong; Young Joon Kim who is the vice-president of GIST; Gwan Haeng Lee, who is the dean of GIST; and planning commissioner Won Taek Han attended to praise the development of GIST in 2011.

GIST president Jung Ho Sonu said in the New Year"s remarks that the keyword for GIST in 2011 is enhancing the "dignity of the university", and added that "in order for GIST to grow to become one of the top 30 universities in the world, we must not remain complacent about the achievements so far nor about the fact that we are located in the rural area, and every faculty member should develop oneself and grow".
