Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology(GIST, dean: Jungho Sonu)"s Advanced Photonics Research Institute(APRI, head: Inwon Lee) Prof. Mingon Kim (Photonics Applied Physics Dept.) research team was selected as recipient of "Industry-Academy Corporate Project" sponsored by Ministry of Education, Science Technolody.

 

Team of Prof, Kim will perform the research that when blood is touched on biosensor, it analyzes at least 4 types of ingredient within 10 minutes to detect illnesses such as myocardial infarction and cancer and immediately perform medical treatment.

 

Simple description of the research and procedure: when blood is inserted into POC biosensor, it analyzes blood component showing the data. By looking at this data, they can decide whether the blood contains some disease factor like myocardial infarction so that medical treatment can be expedited. (※ POC(point-of-care) Biosensor: a small measuring device that can diagnose an illness instantly in case of any medical fiend like an emergency room)
