GIST, Researching Real-Time Monitoring of Aerosol Hygroscopicity and Volatility in the Arctic

 


 

The research team, led by professor Park Ki-Hong, from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, president: Sonu Jung-Ho) conducts researches in the DASAN, Korean Arctic Station, with the real-time aerosol monitoring system, developed by the team to measure the aerosol in the North Pole and identify the impact of climate change.

 

This real-time observation of aerosol hygroscoprcity and volatility in the Arctic is performed for the first time in the world. Only with the materials of non-real-time chemical property of aerosol, it cannot be accurately estimated the origin and the impact of climate of aerosol. Thus, it is expected that this real-time measurement will be much contributed to understanding the aerosol in the North Pole. This research is being conducted by Aerosol Technology and Monitoring Laboratory (National Leading Research Lab) and Korea Polar Research Institute for about a month from Apr. 29 to May 25.
