The 5^th International Desalination Workshop

The Center for Seawater Desalination Plant of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST· President, Kim Young-Joon) held the 5^th International Desalination Workshop (IDW 2012) at Ramada Plaza in Jeju Island on October 28^th ~31^st.

The workshop was attended by 180 experts from over ten countries, including Chairman Jae-Boong Lee of Korea Institute of Construction and Transportation Technology Evaluation and Planning, Secretary General Miriam Balaban of the European Desalination Society, CEO Neil Palmer of the National Centre of Excellence in Desalination (Australia) and professor Harvey Winters from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Saudi Arabia).

A total of 120 presentations (40 oral statements and 80 posters) were made by the participants on seven themes; the analysis and reform of membrane characteristics, new membrane process, desalination technologies, desalination energy, membrane contamination, water reuse and forward osmosis.

Along with the workshop, the Center for Seawater Desalination Plant signed a MoU with the University of Technology, Sydney for cooperation on research.
