Inha fellow Ham, Byong Seung and editorial writer Cheong, Jin-Hong hired as Dasan Distinguished Professor by GIST

 

- As one of the world’s most renowned scholars in the field of quantum memory, Prof. Ham will upgrade the research capabilities of GIST

- Prof. Cheong will reinforce convergence research and humanities & social education as the Director of the Korea Cultural Technology Research Institute.

 

 

 

 

    Professor Ham, Byong Seung (49, left) who is the worlds renowned scholar in the area of quantum memory and Professor Cheong, Jin Hong (50, right) who is a guest editorial writer at Joongang Daily were recently hired by GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President   Young Joon Kim) through the newly introduced Distinguished Professor Program . 

    Prof. Ham had previously served as Inha Fellow Professor at Inha University and was hired as Distinguished Professor for School of Information and Communication, GIST as of March 1st.

    He is one of the greatest scholars in the field of quantum memory, who had extended the short storage time of quantum memory, which was considered as its fundamental limitation, up to 10 hours for the first time in the world (His dissertation was published by Nature Photonics). Also, he explored a new physical principle to enable long-distance quantum communication in April last year (dissertation published by Rapid Communication).

    In recognition of such accomplishments, Prof. Ham was named as the Best Scientist of the Month by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in March 2010 and received the Grand Science Technology Award in the science category from the Incheon metropolitan city.

    Prof. Cheong joined GIST on April 1st. He is a famous columnist who has contributed a weekly column entitled “Cheong Jin-Hong’s Soft Power” to Joongang Daily over the past ten years and received the Grand Award for Journalist at the Seoul Culture Art Award Ceremony (2010) and the “Most Literary Journalist Award” (2011).

    Prof. Cheong received a doctorate in journalism and broadcasting from Sungkyunkwan University in 1998 and worked as professor at Korea National University of Art for eight years from 1995 to 2003. He joined GIST as a Distinguished Professor to head the Korea Cultural Technology Research Institute established on March 1st.
