Field trip for the Foreigners at GIST to Explore Historic and Culturally Meaningful Sites in Spring 2013

 

 

On May 10 (Friday), GIST had a field trip for the foreigners at GIST to explore historic and culturally significant sites in spring 2013.

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President   Young Joon Kim) holds a field trip for the foreigners at GIST every spring and fall. During the trip, participants visit Korea’s beautiful tourist destinations and cultural sites and production facilities of Korea’s major businesses as a means to witness Koreans advanced technologies. GIST’s field trip is highly spoken of among the foreigners at GIST as it is a valuable opportunity for them to experience and understand every corner of Korea.

During the field trip in spring 2013, participants first visited Suncheon Bay Garden Expo, an exposition held in Suncheon in Jeollanam-do which exhibits gardening, plants, and landscaping of the world. Then they visited Suncheon Bay Cyber Ecological Park, an ecological park near Suncheon Bay Garden Expo. Suncheon Bay is one of the biggest coastal wetland of the world and a natural habitat of waterfowl and has tidal flats, a vast bed of reed, and over 120 species of salt plants. At Suncheon Bay, visitors could enjoy one of the most preserved sites in Korea. Finally, they visited Naganeupseong, a Korean castle, to experience Korea’s traditional beauty and culture.
