The 4th Fun Mobile Science Classroom with National Research Foundation of Korea was held at Ip-am Junior High School in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do on July 9th 2013. This is a program conducted by National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF, Chairman Lee Seung Jong) in an effort to fulfill its social responsibility through active knowledge sharing with primary and junior high schools in remote areas.

“Fun Mobile Science Classroom with National Research Foundation of Korea” is a CSR program where leading scientists give special lectures and hand-on scientific activities are provided to students at schools with little access to science lectures and tests, which are recommended by the education offices in eight provinces. Launched in 2012, this program has been conducted eight times so far at Woongcheon Elementary School (Changwon, Kyoungsangnam-do), Yeomsan Elementary School (Youngkwang, Jeollanam-do) and Gamgok Junior High School (Eumsung, Choongcheongbuk-do).

At the 4th Fun Mobile Science Classroom on July 9th, Prof. Seo, Ji Won of GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President   Young Joon Kim) gave a lecture entitled “Find chemistry in your life.” He explained fun stories about how chemistry is deeply embedded in our daily lives, such as clothes, food and cell phone.

In addition to the science lecture, an event named “Elastic Rocket” was also held in order to stimulate students’ interest in science and technology. During “Elastic Rocket,” the students learned about the history of rockets and made elastic rockets together with NRF staff members so as to experience the operational mechanism of an elastic rocket.

Besides, National Research Foundation of Korea donated a compressor for a water rocket and two sets of science box #6 which were needed by Ip-am Junior High School and gave LED-elastic rockets made by students such as “Science Correspondent Hwangdangman” issued by the Foundation.
