Prof. Lee, Jae Young(40) at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President   Young Joon Kim)  received the spotlight of the media as a “Responsible Leader for Future.”

Sponsored by BMW Korea Future Fund, Joongang SUNDAY carried a feature article entitled “Responsible Leader for Future” on July 14^th which introduced Prof. Lee Jae-young’s research work and life story as a scholar. Last year, Prof. Lee Jae-young received “Tajima Prize” which is an award conferred by the International Society of Electrochemistry to a young scholar aged below 40. In the feature article, Prof. Lee was depicted as a new scholar who will lead transition toward a clean, hydrogen economy.

Prof. Lee joined GIST in 2007 and has since strived to develop high-efficiency, practical catalysts necessary for the recycling of CO2 and the conversion of chemical energy, in a bid to overcome the looming depletion of resources and secure sustainable resources. Prof. Lee was a student of Prof. Gerhard Ertl(77), a great authority in catalyst research who won the Nobel Chemistry Prize in 2007. Currently, he carries out activities to nurture the Ertl Center for Electrochemistry and Catalysis of GIST into a world-class research institute.
