Touch Convergence Cluster Promotion Center participates in the Green Car Korea 2013

Touch Convergence Cluster Promotion Center (Director, Prof. Lee Byoung-hun, School of Materials Science and Engineering) took part in the “Green Car Korea 2013” held in Kimdaejung Convention Center, Gwangju during November 7~9, and suggested the growth potential of the touch industry through convergence with various industries, such as touch panels applied to automobiles.

At the exhibition, the Center displayed materials and touch wear prototypes relating to touch screen and touch panel for the automobile industry.

The touch wear prototypes, which turn the monitor of a lap top computer they are connected to into a touch screen, attracted ardent interests from visitors throughout the exhibition.

The purpose of the Center is to lay the foundation of human resources and materials for the touch industry through collaboration and joint R&D among companies, state-run research institutes and universities in Jeolla-do with support from the Intra-mega economy Cooperation Project implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and to promote job creation and investments, thereby contributing to the development of the local economy.

The Center consists of a total of 18 organizations (14 companies and 4 member organizations in Jeolla-do), and 11 professors and 35 students of GIST take part in the research activities of the Center.

Thus far, the Center has created 348 jobs and achieved 162 billion won in sales revenue, 22 billion won in investments and 34 intellectual property rights. In particular, Optrontec, one of the companies participating in the Center, is scheduled to complete the construction of a 15 billion won touch panel plant in the Gwangju High-tech Science Industrial Research Complex by the end of November this year.
