□ GIST (President: Kim, Young Joon) held the G-Tech Fair 2014 at Oryong Hall on June 19 – 20. The G-Tech Fair 2014 is a comprehensive technology fair that exhibits commercially promising technologies developed and owned by GIST in six areas, including biomedical and energy, and arranges on-site consultations involving business leaders in need of technology transfers.

The exhibition was organized by GIST Technology Commercialization Center for the purpose of sharing information on outstanding technologies owned by GIST with industries and promoting creation and cultivation of start-up ventures combining business ideas and science & technology.

GIST ranks No. 1 in Korea in terms of technology loyalty revenues per faculty in science & technology (KRW 19.14 million)*. It was the first time that GIST hosted a technology fair to showcase its proprietary technologies and research outcomes to citizens and companies. (*National Research Foundation, 2012 Report on University-Industry Cooperation Cctivities)

□ A total of 55 promising technologies were introduced at the G-Tech Fair 2014. Technology Exhibition, Technology Briefing Session, and Technology Consulting Session were organically operated, thus providing participants opportunities to easily understand and find more about the technologies they are interested in.

- Technology Exhibition was held at the PR Hall and the Theme Hall of GIST Technology Commercialization Center, where technologies and proto-types of six categories were introduced – IT & Contents, Optic Applications, Biomedical, Next Generation Devices, Next Generation Energy, and Environment.

- The Business Incubator/Entrepreneurship Hall was also set up to feature core technologies (and business items) of four mock business start-ups organized by GIST students, Injibio. Inc., a research firm invested by GIST (CEO: Prof. Kim Min-gon of Chemistry Concentration of GIST), and EM4SYS and Anygen, which are laboratory start-up firms established by GIST professors.

- Technology Briefing Session took place on the first day, where GIST professors and students who have developed promising technologies met with individuals preparing to start a business and companies that have interest in these technologies. Presentations were made on 13 technologies, followed by a Q&A session.

- Technology Briefing Session was divided into two tracks of T1 (IT & Contents, Optic Applications, and Environment) and T2 (Medical, Bio, and Next Generation Devices), held respectively in #101 and #103 at Oryong Hall from 14:00 to 16:00 on June 19.

- Technology Consultation took place throughout the period of the fair. Individuals preparing to start a business and companies that have interest in the technologies developed by GIST professors and students received 1:1 consultations from GIST Technology Commercialization Center staff in charge of technology transfer.

□ Visitors were able to participate in a variety of activities during the G-Tech Fair 2014, including the “Mock Crowd Funding” where people made virtual investments in attractive business start-up items.

* “Crowd Funding” means raising funds from the public; a company gets a certain amount of investment through social media and the Internet and later pays the investors back profits made therefrom.

In the Mock Crowd Funding, registered fair visitors received mock investment money (KRW 10 million per person) and invested it in any of the four mock business start-ups by GIST students; their returns on investment (ROI) were later tallied.

In addition, demonstrations of products utilizing such technologies as haptic movie, drone flying, and dry-electrode-based brainwave measurement were held to help visitors easily understand and experience technology.

□ GIST President Kim, Young Joon said “G-Tech Fair 2014 is the first experience-based technology exhibition held by GIST, which has grown into one of the leading research universities in the world in just 20 years. The purpose of this exhibition is to contribute to the vitalization of creative economy by transferring excellent technologies developed by GIST to industries, thus stimulating innovation, business start-up and job creation in industries. I ask for active interest and participation from business leaders, aspiring entrepreneurs, students, and the general public.”
