Professor Do Han Kim of School of Life Sciences made a contribution of 10 million won to GIST Development Fund in celebration of the 20th anniversary of opening his laboratory in GIST.

Professor Kim opened his Molecular Physiology Laboratory in 1994. Prior to that he had been a faculty member at the University of Connecticut in the United States, but Dr. Doo-bong Ha, the inaugural president of GIST, made an offer and persuaded him to come to GIST. In March 1995, six of GIST’s very first class of master’s students joined Professor Kim’s laboratory, the name of which later changed to what it is today, Systems Biology Laboratory.

Professor Kim said, “Looking back on the 20 years I spent here, I wanted to show my gratitude to the school and my students.” “I am so proud that I was one of the first faculty members of GIST. We have made some big achievements, and we recently made No. 4 in the QS World University Rankings in citations per faculty. If we continue to carry on GIST’s tradition of convergent research among scholars of different backgrounds, we will be able to reap even greater results in the future,” he added.

GIST Development Fund presented Professor Kim with a plaque of appreciation for his contribution on October 20.
