Gwangju Senior Technology Complex, which is promoted by Gwangju City and supervised by GIST to prepare for the rapid population aging of the country, held a workshop on policies to foster senior-friendly industries on November 20, 2014 at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center.

The workshop was held as part of the Gwangju International Senior Fair & Humancare Expo 2014 and was attended by more than 70 experts including officials from government-sponsored institutions and representatives of related industries.

In the first half of the workshop, presentations were given by officials from the Korea Health Industry Development Institute and other government-sponsored institutions to share information on policies to foster senior-friendly industries.

In the second half, related organizations from Korea and Japan, including Kansai Silver Service Association and Korea Senior-Friendly Product Industry Association, were introduced and ways to promote cooperation among them were discussed. In particular, 4 regional centers in Korea—Gwangju Senior Technology Complex, Seongnam Senior Experience Complex, Daegu Senior Convention Center, and Busan Senior Products Industrial Center—singed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation.

Professor Kiseon Kim of GIST School of Information and Communications, who is also heading Gwangju Senior Technology Complex, said, “Starting from this workshop, we will actively exchange and broadly cooperate in order to develop advanced senior-friendly industries with differentiating edges.”
