GIST holds its first Bio-Imaging Camp for high school students

The GIST Bio-Imaging Research Center held its first bio-imaging science camp from August 3 to August 7, 2015, for 22 high school students who are interested life sciences and bio-imaging. All of the participating high students were from Gwangju and Jeonnam areas, and they worked on various projects and attended lectures provided by GIST professors. The students formed 11 teams composed of 2 members per tea, and each team carried out a ‘Mission Project’ and presented their results of their research on the last day of the camp.

Among the teams, Byung Chul Lee (Changpyong High School) and Min Soo Kang (Gwangju Science High School) received the grand prize. Jong Hyuk Choi (Mokpo Maria High School) Ji Hae Noh (Gwangju Science High School) received the second place prize. Dong Kyu Lee (Jeonnam Science High School), Yae Jin Lee (Gwangju Speer Girls’ High School), Ki Woong Guk (Sangmoo High School), Seo Hyang Jung (Moonjung Girls’ High School), Ki Sung Chun (Dongshin High School), and Ji Eun Oh (Gwangyang Jecheol High School) received participation prizes.

The bio-imaging science camp was organized by Professor Youngsoo Jun of the School of Life Sciences who said, “Even though this was our very first event, many bright young students from our community participated, and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of their research results.”

Director Chang Duk Jeon of GIST Bioimaging Research Center said, “We will actively work with our community through this camp, and we hope to share our excellent research achievements with the students and the general public. Also, through greater awareness of this camp, we hope to attract bright students in the region to study at GIST College and attend our graduate schools.”
