GIST: 6th in the Nation, 301-350 in the World

According to THE World University Rankings

- GIST is included in THE World University Rankings for the first time.

GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology: President Seung Hyeon Moon) was ranked 6th in Korea and 301-350th in the world by THE (Times Higher Education) World University Rankings for 2015-2016 on November 1, 2015.

GIST was included in THE World University Rankings for the first time after the graduation of GIST"s first undergraduate college class in February of 2014.

For the 2014-2015 THE World University Rankings, GIST was only included in the "Subject Ranking" and placed 96th in the world and 4th in Korea for the category of Engineering & Technology. This year"s "Subject Ranking" will be announced later in October.

California Institute of Technology (USA) was placed 1st in this year"s World University Rankings followed by the University of Oxford (UK), Stanford University (USA), University of Cambridge (UK), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).

Among the colleges in Korea, Seoul National University (85th), Pohang University of Science and Technology (116th), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (148th) made the top 3 in the nation. GIST (301-350) and Yeonsei University (301-350) took 6th place respectively in the nation.

* THE World University Rankings announces individual rankings up to the 200th place. After 200, the ranking increment changes by counting in increments of 50 (ex: 201st-250th, 251st-300th, etc).

Every year, the Times Higher Education uses thirteen carefully calibrated performance indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income. Recently, GIST was also ranked second in the world for "Citations per Faculty" as reported by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), a worldwide university assessment agency based in Britain, on September 14, 2015.
