The School of Information and Communication has established

a joint Ph.D. program with Curtin University in Australia

GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology - President Seung Hyeon Moon) School of Information and Communication and Curtin University in Perth, Australia, have signed an MOU allowing their students to obtain a joint Ph.D. from both institutions beginning in 2016. To qualify for this program, a student must meet the graduation requirements of both institutions and must spend a year in residence at the other institution to perform collaborative research with a professor from that institution.

GIST"s School of Information and Communication attended the first GIST-Curtin workshop that was held at Curtin University during October 15 - 17, 2015, and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed to establish a joint Ph.D. program between the two institutions. The two institutions also agreed to hold annual workshops and visits, and the next one will be held at GIST next April.

GIST"s School of Information and Communication will also be involved with Curtin University to provide practical assistance as it establishes an international Spatial Situational Awareness (SSA) research center with the United States and the United Kingdom to track and monitor space debris.

The Dean of the School of Information and Communication, Professor Hong Kook Kim, said, "Because Curtin University has a variety of global programs, this agreement will help attract more foreign students to GIST and will help generate excellent research."

Also attending the first GIST-Curtin workshop with Dean Kim were Professor Chang-Soo Park, Professor Moongu Jeon, Professor Jinho Choi who are all faculty members of the School of Information and Communication.
