Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST‧President, Kim Young-Joon) announce on September 13, 2012 that Professor Chun Jang-Soo of School of Life Science won a commendation by Minister of Health and Welfare on September 12, as he was nominated the ‘man of merit for promoting technologies for the healthcare industry 2012’.

Professor Chun was highly appraised for his contribution to national health and welfare with his research on fundamental treatment and prevention of degenerative arthritis in the field of ‘Great Researcher of Health Technology’ as well as his contribution to advancements in the health and medical service by solving the elderly’s health issue which is rising in the aging society. 

     The governmental award for the man of merit in promoting the Health Technology was established by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to expand the understanding on importance of healthcare industry and is granted to those who greatly contributed to the development and promotion of the health technology (HT) of Korea. The awards ceremony was held on September 12 at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do.
