Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kim Young-Joon) announced on November 23, 2012 that Professor Hee-chul Choi of Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of GIST was elected as a full member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology in 2012.

Professor Choi is recognized for pioneering Korea’s environmental nano engineering area which combines nano technology, the big thing in the world’s scientific community, and environmental engineering technology. He was elected as a regular member this year as he was highly praised for his great contribution to the development of environmental engineering area which is reaching the limit of technological development.

Professor Choi is currently serving as an associate editor of Journal of Environmental Engineering, a SCI journal published by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Also, he acts as a Korean representative of International Program Committee, the highest committee of International Water Association.
