Professor Jaeyoung Lee of GIST (School of Environmental Science and Engineering) and Chaired Professor Hasuck Kim of DGIST (Department of Energy Systems Engineering) have been named winners of the Best Authorship Award by Springer Publishing, a leading global publisher of science and business with 172 years of history.

The two professors jointly published a paper titled “Graphene-supported Pd electrocatalysts for formic acid oxidation” in the June 2010 issue of Electrocatalysis, an international academic journal published by Springer. In the paper, the research team confirmed the high potential of graphene as a support for highly active electrocatalysts, and revealed that highly dispersed Pd nanoparticles on graphene maximize the oxidation of small organic molecules such as formic acid. The research results are expected to contribute to the commercialization of high power fuel cells and high capacity metal-air cells.

The Best Authorship Award ceremony will take place at the International Symposium on Electrocatalysis scheduled to be held in October 2014 in Vancouver, Canada, where Professor Lee will present his research results in an invited talk.

Professor Lee said his research team in the future will focus efforts on recycling carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, into useful and high value fuels such as butanol and ethylene, as well as developing fuel cells to solve the energy problem using water.
