Sung-Jun Park (28) of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at GIST (academic adviser Prof. Myung-Han Yoon) was awarded with the ‘Young Scientist Award’ from the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS).

The E-MRS differs from many single-discipline professional societies by encouraging scientists, engineers, and research managers to exchange information on an interdisciplinary platform, and by recognizing professional and technical excellence by promoting the achievements of student to senior level scientists with awards.

E-MRS Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic achievements and current materials research display a high level of excellence and distinction. E-MRS seeks to recognize students of exceptional ability who show promise for significant future achievement in materials research.

Participants at the 2015 E-MRS Conference & Exhibition held in Lille, France, from May 11-15, 2015.

Sung-Jung Park gave a presentation on the ‘Rapid Photoactivation of Sol-Gel Metal Oxide Materials for All Solution Processed Flexible Devices’ at the conference. He presented a technique for creating an ultra-thin metal-oxide using deep ultraviolet rays that only takes 5 minutes to complete compared to the 2 hours required for current manufacturing techniques. This new and simple manufacturing process will help drastically lower the cost of production and is further expected to promote industrial uses of various oxide materials.
