Born in 1947, Mr. Ko founded Nayoung Industries in 1982, and it has grown substantially since then with revenues of 29.7 billion won in 2014, making it one of the leading small and medium sized enterprises in the Jeonnam area. Nayoung Industries began as an original equipment manufacturer by making parts for refrigerators as a sub-contractor for larger corporations, such as Samsung Electronics Company, and has continuously developed its in-house manufacturing processes and expertise.

During the dedication ceremony, Mr. Ko explained his reasons for contributing to the GIST Development Fund by saying, "While managing my company for the past 30 years, I have keenly felt the importance of technological developments as well as the need for human resource excellence. In particular, independent research and development capabilities are required for success, and small and medium sized enterprises can benefit enormously from technical cooperation and personnel exchanges with GIST."
