The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) under the leadership of GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon will host the 2016 College Camp for new undergraduate students from February 15, 2016, to February 25, 2016. With GIST College achieving a highly competitive admission"s ratio of 13.71% for the incoming class of 2016 (for comparison, in 2014 Caltech"s ratio was 8.8% and U.C. Berkeley"s ratio was 16%), 200 highly-qualified and talented students were accepted for the academic year.

To help these students better prepare for the rigorous academic challenges offered at GIST, the College Camp provides the new students with an introduction to college life. The two-week intensive preparation offered by the College Camp includes classes to help students improve their English language skills, develop traits to become better students and scientists, and manage their lives and health as an active member of Korea"s very first residential liberal arts science college.

GIST College Dean Do-Kyeong Ko, "GIST has created new programs to assist students with a smooth transition into their first semester."

GIST freshman Joon-Hee Ko who attended a local high school in Gwangju said: "I am very excited to experience university life during GIST"s College Camp even before I have officially graduated from high school. This makes me very optimistic about studying at GIST because I think the environment here will give me the best opportunity to study science and to perhaps even one day win the Nobel Prize."

The College Camp officially ends on February 25, 2016.
