The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) under the leadership of President Seung Hyeon Moon is establishing a professional development program known as the GIST Climate Change Academy to help humanity solve one of the most pressing challenges of the modern era: global warming.

The purpose of the GIST Climate Change Academy is to enroll high-ranking public officials, business leaders, and other influential professionals to become knowledgeable climate change experts so that they can help shape and implement policies to mitigate the negative effects of global warming. Participants enrolled in the GIST Climate Change Academy will be taught in Korean by instructors from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in collaboration with the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI).

The application deadline for the first session of the GIST Climate Change Academy is on March 31, 2015, and the course will begin on April 6, 2016, and continue for twelve weeks until June 30, 2016. Classes for the GIST Climate Change Academy will meet every Wednesday night from 7:00 PM to 9:50 PM once the session has commenced.

GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon said, "The GIST Climate Change Academy will provide in-depth training for Korea"s top civic and industrial leaders so that they can make informed decisions about issues that will be affected by global warming, such as food and energy production, social migration, international cooperation, and the global economy. We are expecting a lot of interest and participation from public officials, entrepreneurs, and other professionals."
