Professor Chang Wook Ahn announces second digital album composed by artificial intelligence "Boid"

□ Professor Chang Wook Ahn of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) has announced a second digital album composed by artificial intelligence "Boid," which he developed.

∘ "Boid" * was the first artificial intelligence composer that was developed in Korea in 2016 and will be renamed "EvoM (Spring)" in the future.

* Boid is a physics term that refers to the rules atoms follow in the natural world.

∘ "Boyd" is an artificial intelligence that mimics the human brain and operates in close conjunction with evolutionary algorithm, deep learning, and composition theory. By making many songs in parallel with compositional theory of random elements and evaluating these songs based on the musical elements learned from the songs (reflecting the user's musical taste), the process of creating new songs by randomly combining elements of composition theory is repeated many times.

□ On June 26, 2017, B two New Age style songs composed by Boid, "Song of Spring" and "This Spring," were released on various music sites.

∘ The New Age song introduced this time was meant to discover whether artificial intelligence can touch the delicate sensibilities of human beings. In other words, is it possible for Boid to understand the emotional elements from the songs (melody) that the user entered into during the learning process?

□ Professor Chang Wook Ahn said, " Artificial intelligence should be able to compose a melody with emotion. In the future, we will develop musical compositions based on artificial intelligence in collaboration with musical experts, and we will also develop technologies that can create music by themselves."

□ Professor Ahn and his students have founded Creative Mind, Inc., and are developing automatic background music production technologies to match the mood and emotion of photos and videos. The company expects to provide new customized services for blogs, SNS, and photo albums, which is a key trend of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
