Maekyung-GIST hosts forum discussion about fostering creative and innovative people and regional entrepreneurial ecosystems based on the 4th Industrial Revolution

GIST and the Maekyung Media Group co-hosted the Maekyung-GIST Forum on March 30, 2017, with the theme of "New Challenges for the Human-Centered Fourth Industrial Revolution."

 

In his keynote speech, GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon said, "Specialists in the field of convergence technology must have an accurate view and understanding of the complex interactions between various disciplines and technologies, and self-discipline is needed to constantly understand new technological developments. Therefore, the ultimate success or failure of the 4th Industrial Revolution depends on creating convergence specialists."

For this reason, GIST intends to pursue the creation of the GIST Global Innovation Campus to achieve "Sustainable Growth and a Human-Centered Society Based on Advanced Science and Technology".

During the first session, Professor Chang-gyeong Kim of the Department of Science and Technology Policy at Hanyang University moderated the discussion on "The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Cultivating Innovative Specialists." During the second session, the KEPCO Director Dong-Seop Kim moderated the discussion on "The KEPCO 4.0 Project Plan to Establish an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem with Local Universities."

 

Hanyang University Professor Chang-kyung Kim said, "The university-centered training of specialists and educational systems based on the accumulation of knowledge should be changed." For that reason, Mook (MOOK), a massive online public class, and the Nano Degree program have been created.

 

Dong-seop Kim, who is the head of KEPCO's New Growth Technology Division, explained that the 9 major projects of KEPCO will lead the nation's 4th Industrial Revolution by building a new business ecosystem and by creating future resources for food. In particular, KEPCO announced that it plans to create a global energy valley to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution.

 

GIST Professor Heung-No Lee (GIST Research Director) and GIST Professor Kiseon Kim (Energy Valley Director) from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science served as moderators for each session, gave suggestions on how to cultivate specialists, provided opinions on the local entrepreneurial ecosystem, and led the Q & A portion of the discussion with the panel of experts.

 

The forum was held at Oryong Hall at GIST, and 300 people attended the event.
