Professor Chun Taek Rim's research team develops contactless power transfer technology for Hyundai Kia Motors Innovative Idea Competition
□ Professor Chun Taek Rim research team at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) has jointly developed contactless power transmission technology for sliding doors with researchers Hyung-in Yoon and Myung-kwon Jae from Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd., and they received the Invensiad award at the Hyundai Kia Motors Innovative Idea Competition, which was held on May 18, 2017, at the Namyang Research Institute located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.
∘ Hyundai Motor and GIST have been doing industry-academia cooperation since 2016 for the development of this technology with Ph.D. students Bumwoo Ko and Jinsoo Choi and masters degree student Hosung Sohn.
□ This year, a total of 1,657 ideas were presented during the competition. Of the six finalists, a prototype of the contactless power transfer technology was awarded. Among all of the excellent ideas presented, applicable technologies may be applied to the mass production of more vehicles.
□ Professor Chun Taek Rim said, "Changing existing sliding doors to non-contact type can solve cable wear problems and disconnection problems. In the future, sliding doors will be more widely used in more automobiles"
