GIST and KISDI agree to work closely together on artificial intelligence for the 4th Industrial Revolution

GIST and KISDI agree to work closely together on artificial intelligence for the 4th Industrial Revolution

□ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, President Dae-Hee Kim) signed an agreement on July 17, 2017, to work more closely on the development of artificial intelligence for the 4th Industrial Revolution.

□ The agreement between GIST and KISDI will utilize GIST's research capabilities in artificial intelligence will using KISDI's research policy expertise to expand the exchange of technology and personnel to improve national R&D efforts.

∘ Since its establishment in 1985, KISDI has been contributing to the growth of Korea as an ICT powerhouse by discovering core growth engines for national economic development through research on the information society of Korean society and through the development of information and communication broadcasting industry. KISDI intend to strengthen their research capabilities to become the "best think tank for ICT in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution."

∘ GIST established the Artificial Intelligence Promotion Group (Professor Hong Kook Kim) in July 2016 to concentrate research capacity at GIST and to train artificial intelligence information technology research personnel to improve artificial intelligence information technology. GIST is planning to become a leader in artificial intelligence information technology and concentrate its AI research capacity by expanding the number of personnel to meet the government's five key promotion fields related to AI research policy. Professor Kim is currently conducting AI-based climate change prediction research and autonomous navigation research, and he is in talks with Samsung Software Center and Naver for collaborative research. In May 2017, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Computer Engineering Department of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for mutual exchange of professors and students for the next five years and to condut joint research on artificial intelligence for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
