GIST Social Outreach Team hosts the third English Science Camp
□ The Social Outreach Team at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) invited 35 elementary students from Gwangju regional children's center for its third science and technology camp on September 2, 2017.
∘ The first English Science Camp was organized on August 4th and 5th, and it was held on the GIST campus. The second camp was held on August 16 and was an off-campus event with GIST student volunteers who visited participating students living in marginalized areas of Jeonnam.
□ GIST students volunteer their time and expertise for the English Science Camp to conduct interesting science programs for local elementary and junior high school students. The English Science Camp is supported by the GIST Social Outreach Team.
∘ Participants work with GIST student volunteers to create air rockets, inkless letters, heavy boats, plastic key chains, and science quizzes! Various songs are also taught, and participants can learn more English.
∘ Currently, the program is focused on students who are interested in science; however, in the future, the program will gradually expand to help marginalized children who are interested in learning about other educational topics.
□ International and Public Affairs Dean Yong Chul Kim said, "The GIST Social Outreach Team will actively support student groups and clubs whose activities benefit the community, and we will build a foundation to continuously support volunteer activities that benefit society."
