APRI signs MoU with the Institute of Physics at the Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology

□ The Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI, Director Byeong Ha Lee) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on October 31, 2017, with the Institute of Physics (Director Le Hong Khiem) the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

* Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) was established in 1975 and is the largest national research institute in Vietnam and is a consultative body for research on national science and technology policy under the Prime Minister of Vietnam. It boasts outstanding achievements in natural sciences, chemistry, and physics, and has over 3,000 researchers in 30 research institutes and 4 affiliated institutions. In particular, the Institute of Physics (IOP) has a total of about 150 researchers in eight laboratories, including theoretical physics, computer physics, nuclear physics, biophysics, engineering physics, environmental physics, applied physics, and automation.

∘ GIST APRI has the world's highest power 4.2 petawatt laser research facility with more than 80 experts conducting world-class research for medical, industrial, laser defense, and optical technology development. Every year since 2010, it has been carrying out various personnel exchanges and educational programs in the field of laser-photonics with Vietnam.

□ On October 30 and 31, VAST held a seminar on laser and photonics and established a science and technology forum between Korea and Vietnam. In addition, APRI researchers, Professor Le Hong Khiem VAST IOP, and faculty members from related research fields at Hanoi University attended the MoU signing ceremony for collaborative research, personnel exchanges, and access to advanced research equipment in the laser and photonics fields.

□ APRI Director Byeong Ha Lee said, "Through close cooperation with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, we will be able to conduct international research and commercialization of laser and precision optics between Vietnam and Korea."
