Advanced Photonics Research Institute celebrates its 17th anniversary
□ The Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI, Director Byeong Ha Lee) * at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) hosted its 17th Anniversary Ceremony on May 9, 2018.
* APRI is the only optical research institute in Korea. Since its establishment in 2001, more than 90 researchers including 30 full-time PhDs have researched laser and optical technologies.
□ About 80 members of the institute, including two former directors, Dr. In-won Lee and Dr. Yong-tak lee, attended the ceremony.
▲ Dr. Jun-heon Kim received the Academic Paper Award ▲ Dr. Bong-an Yoo received the Technology Development Award ▲ Kyungwon Kim ‧ Myung-hwan Kim ‧ No-sung Myong ‧ Hee-sun Yang received research achievement awards.
□ Director Byeong Ha Lee said, "The GIST Advanced Photonics Research Institute has achieved outstanding research achievements not only in basic science but also in industrial applications by combining photonics with various fields such as security, defense, agriculture, and marine, focusing on advanced laser development. We will continue to pursue a wide range of research based on lasers while developing professional experts."
□ Currently, APRI has been actively involved with overseas research institutes, including those related to national defense, security, agriculture, and maritime industries, and has been working on joint research and human exchanges with overseas research institutes such as Switzerland, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
