Center for Nanomaterials and Chemical Reactions (CNCR) at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) invites applications for a tenure-track research fellow who are particularly interested in nanoscience and chemical reactions. We are specifically interested in the candidates with expertise in chemical science beyond the current research, also with high research potentials.

■ Introduction of the research center
Center for Nanomaterials and Chemical Reactions is one of the first centers established by the Institute for Basic Science. The center is directed by Prof. Ryong Ryoo and located at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) as one of the IBS campus centers. The center is studying nanoscience and chemical reactions using basic science to find comprehensive solutions for dealing with the environmental and energy-related problems that face future generations. This center endeavors to reveal the fundamental principles underlying the formation of nanostructures, and to build on this foundation to synthesize highly-efficient nano-catalysts with desired structure and properties. In addition, the center pursues solutions to energy-related and environmental problems by understanding and controlling green chemical reactions occurring in nano-catalysts.

■ Job description & Requirements for the position
We seek candidates for a tenure-track position with specialty in nanoscience and chemical reactions. The candidate will work on projects aimed at investigating transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of fundamental properties of nanomaterials and designing novel experiments by utilizing environmental-TEM (ETEM) which has been recently established at CNCR in IBS. It is highly desirable that (i) the candidate is highly-skilled at conventional TEM analysis such as electron diffraction, high-resolution imaging and electron spectroscopy and (ii) the candidate has working experiences with designing novel TEM experiments along with the related-processes such as synthesizing or fabricating nanostructured materials/devices. The candidate will combine emerging TEM technologies along with functional nanomaterials system to meet the demands for cutting-edge TEM analysis methods and to provide insights to further the research and outreach programs in IBS.

※ Classification of Research Positions (tenure-track)
1. Types of Appointment
？ Tenure-track
- Those in tenure-track research positions are eligible for a tenure evaluation* if they have met certain requirements.
* Tenured researcher: Tenured researchers are continuously employed until the age of 65 with no need to renew their contracts.
2. Terms and Conditions
- Researchers are hired under employment contracts and the term of their initial contracts does not exceed five years (not for tenured researchers).
3. Tenure-track
？ Tenure evaluation
- If those in tenure-track research positions have met certain requirements, the Personnel Committee for IBS Research Centers will conduct a tenure evaluation on whether to appoint them as tenured researchers.
？ Re-evaluation and retirement
- If they fail to obtain tenure, then they must be re-evaluated within a fixed period set by the IBS president.
(If they fail a second time, they must, ipso facto, leave after a grace period of no more than one year.)

④ Negotiation with IBS personal committee and appointed as tenure-track research fellow
