The 2013 Global Intern Program (GIP) of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Young Joon Kim) will officially start with an orientation session on July 1st 2013. The intern program, which is one of the international cooperation activities of GIST, will last seven weeks from July 1 to August 16. In addition to the screening of recommended applicants, the program also selected applicants through open competition, which ended in March with a stiff competition rate of 9:1. Advisors and labs for all participant students were already decided. Program participants will receive not only living allowance but also dormitory rooms, one-way flight tickets, health insurance and various programs to help them learn Korean culture. This year, a total of 29 interns were selected from 18 countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Turkey and Israel, which include those recommended by the global partner institutions of GIST. GIST will spare no effort to help provide the interns with valuable courses to experience GIST so that they would enroll next semester as regular students, and expects the intern program will serve as an opportunity to promote its research cooperation and students exchange with its global partner institutions which entered into MoU with GIST.
