GIST professors celebrate Science Day with six employees receiving awards

□ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) will celebrate the 51st Science Day on April 21, 2018, with four professors and two staff members receiving awards, including Professor Jong-In Song.

∘ The following received awards △ Professor Jong-In Song of School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science △ Professor Min-gon Kim of the Department of Chemistry △ Professor Jaeyoung Lee of the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering △ Professor Keun-Young Kim of the Department of Physics and Photon Science △ staff member Eun-Mi Kim △ staff member In-ho Hwang.

□ Professor Jong-In Song received the Science and Technology Medal and was awarded the prize for outstanding new technology development, academic activities, and training of outstanding manpower in the fields of information, electronics and communication, including the development of next generation optical wireless communication technology, the sixth generation mobile communication technology.

∘ Professor Song has contributed to the development of future fusion convergence technologies as the director of large-scale R & D projects such as ITRC. In addition, he has been a member of the Korea Research Foundation and a member of the National Science and Technology Council. He has been recognized for his contribution to building advanced research support infrastructures and establishing a research infrastructure for ICT.

□ Professor Min-gon Kim, who received the Presidential Citation, has been recognized for developing and commercializing a point-of-care (POC) biosensor for on-site diagnosis, such as the development of biosensor technology capable of rapidly measuring a large number of biomarkers with trace amounts of blood.

∘ Professor Kim was selected as the 100 leading technology leader in Korea by the Korea Engineering Academy in 2017.

□ Professor Jaeyoung Lee of the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering has been recognized for his contributions to the industrialization of hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen production, and CO2 recycling by developing high-performance electrode catalyst and high-efficiency process.

∘ Professor Lee has published many papers in eminent domestic and international journals and has had many patent applications. He has received the INNOX Academy Award, the GIST Regional Collaboration Service Award, and the Most Outstanding Paper Award.

□ Professor Keun-Young Kim has been recognized for his contributions to physics research and international exchanges such as nuclear physics, particle physics, superstring theory, gravity, black holes, solid physics, and quantum information theory.

∘ Professor Kim has been organizing international conferences every year since 2013, leading scholarly exchanges between Korea and abroad, contributing to humanities fusion science education, education innovation and science popularization, contributing to the development of college subjects. Since 2013, when he became a professor at GIST, he has been organizing an international society every year, leading the exchange of theoretical and applied physics both at home and abroad.

□ Section Chief Eun-Mi Kim of the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering has been recognized for her efforts to lead the harmonious relationship among members and to provide active administrative support to enable smooth education and research.

∘ For more than 17 years at GIST, she worked in various departments such as academic support team, research promotion team, graduate school support team, and contributed to education and research.

□ Planning and Innovation Team senior administrative officer In-ho Hwang provides information to the National Assembly and government for the establishment of science and technology policies, establishes the basis for fostering advanced science and technology talents, and establishes a family-friendly research institute I was recognized for my contribution.

∘ He contributed to the GIST family-friendly enterprise certification in 2017 by introducing the time-lapse commuting system and the working time reduction system during the period of working for the general affairs team. The Planning and Innovation Team contributed to the activities of the National Assembly in the science and technology field by supporting the activities of the National Assembly and conducting efficient state inspections.

□ The Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) is honoring people who contributed to the development of science and technology to promote the pride, honor and morale of science and technology workers. The 51st Science Day ceremony and the awards ceremony will be held on April 20, 2018.
