Abstract
This presentation introduces topology optimization to solve multi-phased vibro-acoustic systems, consisting of air, poroelastic, and elastic materials. Due to distinct mathematical descriptions for the different vibro-acoustic materials, it was a very challenging issue in the topology optimization field to formulate the multi-phased vibro-acoustic design problems into iterative optimization processes. To cope with the difficulty, a new modeling technique to represent air, poroelastic, and elastic materials in a unified manner has recently been developed. By employing the unified modeling technique, various interesting vibro-acoustic design examples have been solved successfully. With the design results, possible applications of the present unified modeling based topology optimization are discussed in the presentation.
